Crean Lutheran boys volleyball players showed ‘faith and class’

Crean Lutheran’s boys volleyball team was making progress when the season came to an early end. “2020 boys volleyball has been a true blessing,” said Coach Glenn Henry. “I was called back to Crean Lutheran and thankful to our group of guys who had been pushing hard to get back to a championship mindset with faith and class.”

Among the highlights was the Saints victory over Sunny Hills. Henry said his message to his players would be “look forward to the future and continue to trust in God. We have relied on him in all that we do and will continue to live in faith over fear.” 

Henry also talked about the seniors:

Kaden Kring: “Kaden has competed at the highest level in high school and club and has displayed the most complete set of skills over his four years.”

Christopher Nomura: “Topher is a huge spiritual leader for us. He continues to lead players with his dedication and all in attitude in all that he does.”

Christian Hahm: “Hahm has been our offensive key over the years. His physical presence and ability to see the floor has helped us succeed this season against some big teams.”

Christian Griffin: “C. Griff has been a huge piece for us over the years. He thinks critically and respects everyone he comes in contact with.”

David Cooke: “His physicality and willingness to learn really helped him excel quickly. David always brought a great energy to our team in practice and games with his ability to lead vocally with maturity and superb demeanor. “

Sam Bray: “Sam was a true talent for us. If he continues to play, he has the ability to excel at the next level, and beyond that with his volley IQ and focus.”

Colin Christie: “Colin has a career in coaching if he is willing. He has been the most sound in understanding film and sees all of the things the coaches see.”

Jaret Yucknat: “Jaret has been a go-to guy for us. He can be trusted in any moment to start or come off the bench and get his job done.”

Wyatt Matthews: “I admire his perseverance and ability to keep moving forward. He stands tall, rises and embodies the expression; ‘fall seven times, stand up eight.’”

Crean Lutheran boys volleyball players thankful for a new season

Crean Lutheran High School’s boys volleyball team, with some talented freshmen and returning players, is looking for a successful season under Coach Glenn Henry.

“As a coaching staff and through prayer we have really been preaching that every day not be a day we take for granted,” Henry said. “We have all been reflecting on the fact that this time last year, we were on lockdown (due to the pandemic). We have thanked the Lord every day for the opportunity to come in and compete night in and night out.

“We have all really embraced the challenges thus far which I believe has helped us and will help us grit out some wins this season.” Henry said the Saints, who were ranked sixth in the CIF Division 6 poll in April, have some talented players. “We have a well rounded group this year, a good mix of skilled athletes who bring quite a bit to the table,” he said.

Freshmen Eamon Rigdon and Paul Schulteis, both 6-6,  will “help protect the net, “Henry said. “Sophomores Hunter Baldwin and Justin Kim really help balance our serve-receive and keep us in matches with a great first ball touch,” Henry said. “Nathan Stuewe, a junior who provides great leadership, maturity and work ethic, will battle for the setting position.” Among the seniors are Jeremy Simon “who has become a well balanced player and captain,” Henry said. “He’s become accustomed to big matches and his experience in those situations shows.” Senior setter Brenden Kasravi and seniors Matt Simon and Bryce Dunn are also expected to contribute, Henry said.
