The Athletic Department personnel and coaches are excited to announce participation in athletic activities. Athletes are invited to practice with their teammates and continue to train in the Strength & Conditioning center. Crean Lutheran’s Health and Safety protocols will be followed. As a reminder, students must have completed the Assumption of Risk and Waiver form in order to participate in sports on campus.  The Assumption of Risk and Waiver form was emailed to the primary parent email address through SignNow via forms@creanlutheran.org. 

It is important for our entire community to remain confident and united in Christ. The protocols in place ensure everyone’s safety as we strive to be good neighbors. As Orange County continues to recover, Crean Lutheran High School will continue to observe health and safety measures to protect our student-athletes and coaches.

VOLUNTARY WORKOUTS

Visitors: No visitors. Only school personnel, coaches, athletic trainers, and student-athletes will be present in practice/workout areas during activities.

Athletes (mandatory items; must be in hand for an athlete to attend practice/workout)

  • Face mask, bandana, neck gaiter, cloth buff, or cloth face shield (stored in clean paper bag when not in use)

    • “Medical grade” masks are not required or recommended for athletic activity.

    • Face masks, bandanas, neck gaiters, cloth buffs, and cloth face shields must be washed daily.

    • Plastic face shields will not be allowed in lieu of a cloth facial covering.

  • Large water bottle (LOTS of water [64 oz.], so refills are not necessary)

  • Personal disinfectant hand wipes (to be used before, during, and after practice)

    • At least 60% alcohol

  • Hand sanitizer (to be used before, during, and after practice)

    • At least 60% alcohol

  • Knowledge of physical distancing

  • Knowledge of personal hygiene (e.g. shower immediately upon returning home)

Facial Coverings

  • Each athlete is required to bring a face mask, bandana, neck gaiter, cloth buff, or cloth face shield and store it in a clean paper bag when not in use.

    • “Medical grade” masks are not required or recommended for athletic activity.

    • Face masks, bandanas, neck gaiters, cloth buffs, and cloth face shields must be washed daily.

    • Plastic face shields will not be allowed in lieu of a cloth facial covering.

  • Large water bottle (LOTS of water [64 oz.], so refills are not necessary)

  • Each individual athlete may choose to wear his or her face covering at any time; however, face coverings are required when an activity requires a person to be closer than six feet.

    • Exception: Due to concerns related to a lack of oxygen and the buildup of CO2, student-athletes who are engaged in exercise and/or other physical activity, even those who are within six feet of one another may not be required to wear a mask.

  • Athletes will always have the option to choose not to participate in an activity, if they feel uncomfortable, including those that require a physical distance of less than six feet. At their discretion, a coach may provide an option for the athlete to do an individual drill or rest for a few minutes.

Distancing/Groups

  • Group sizes will be limited to 10 or less indoors

  • Group sizes will be limited to 50 or less outdoors

  • Coaches will maintain physical distancing of six feet, unless proper instruction requires less distance. When the coach is within six feet of one or more athletes, he or she shall wear a face covering

  • Athletes may attend multiple practices per day, provided the athletes change clothes prior to each additional practice session and follow all hygiene guidelines.

  • Athletes will always have the option to choose not to participate in an activity, if they feel uncomfortable, including those that require a physical distance of less than six feet. At their discretion, a coach may provide an option for the athlete to do an individual drill or rest for a few minutes.

Disinfecting

  • Hand sanitizer will be available at all practice/workout locations. In addition, and as noted above, athletes are required to bring hand sanitizer.

  • Daily cleaning schedules are in place for all athletic facilities (e.g. field benches, goal posts, Strength & Conditioning Center equipment, restrooms, door handles, sinks, faucets, knobs, toilets, tables, soap dispensers, chairs, furniture, tables, Training Room equipment, etc.)

    • In addition, equipment and surfaces, including weights, benches, balls, bats, helmets, gloves, etc., will be wiped down and cleaned by athletes after each group activity, individual workout, and/or skill development session.

  • Appropriate clothing/shoes are required at all times to minimize transmission of perspiration to equipment/surfaces.

Additional Measures

  • Individuals with COVID-19 symptoms may not come to school, attend workouts, or attend practices until at least 10 days after symptoms first appeared and at least 3 days after recovery.

  • Individuals who were in close contact with someone diagnosed or suspected to have COVID-19 are to self-quarantine for 14 days from the date of exposure. For example, student-athletes living with someone who tests positive for COVID-19 will not be allowed at workouts for 14 days from the date of exposure.

    • Close contact is defined as being within 6 feet for more than 10 minutes with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 or is suspected to have COVID-19.

  • The Strength Center’s Pandemic Response Team (PRT), will address situations that involve positive symptoms and positive COVID-19 test results on a case-by-case basis, working with the families involved.

    • Note: If a person involved with workouts tests positive for COVID-19, daily attendance data will be reviewed, families of impacted student-athletes will be notified, and the Orange County Health Care Agency will be notified.
