Our Mission
- The health and well-being of the athletes is our number one priority.

Team Doctors
Dr. Robert Grumet, MD – Team Physician
Dr. Grumet is a board certified Orthopaedic Surgeon with sub specialty training in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopic Surgery. He specializes in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder, knee and hip with a special emphasis in cartilage restorative procedures and hip arthroscopy. Dr. Grumet grew up in Colorado before becoming a permanent resident of Southern California. He earned his Bachelor of Science with Honors in Biological Sciences from the University of Southern California where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. Dr. Grumet also earned his medical degree from USC where he was a Dean’s Scholar for the Junior/Senior curriculum. For his orthopedic residency, he trained at the University of California, Irvine. He completed his fellowship training at the prestigious Rush University Medical Center in Chicago under Doctors Bach, Cole, Romeo, Nicholson, Verma and Bush-Joseph. While at Rush, Dr. Grumet participated as one of the team physicians for the Chicago Bulls, White Sox and multiple semi-professional, university and high school sports teams. He has had extensive experience in caring for athletes at all levels. Dr. Grumet has received many awards and honors including Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Societies, the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation Award, and the Senior Resident Research Awards. He has contributed to the advancement of sports medicine through his research and has published extensively on topics including rotator cuff pathology and repair, shoulder instability, ACL reconstruction and revision, and cartilage restoration. Dr. Grumet has also served as an instructor for orthopaedic surgical residents. Dr. Grumet is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Association, California Orthopaedic Association and American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. He has also been honored as an Emerging Leader by the American Orthopaedic Association.
David W. Kruse, MD – Team Physician
Dr. Kruse is a board certified family medicine and sports medicine physician, and serves as the director of primary care sports medicine at the Orthopedic Specialty Institute in Orange, CA. He offers expertise in general medical needs of the athlete, such as concussion management, as well as the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of sports injuries. Kruse currently works with many local sports clubs and high schools, as well as UC Irvine's intercollegiate student-athletes. Kruse earned his Bachelor of Science degree from UC Berkeley, medical degree from UC San Diego and completed his residency in family medicine at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. While completing a fellowship in primary care sports medicine at Memorial Hospital of South Bend, IN, he also served as a team physician at the University of Notre Dame and other area colleges and schools. Kruse is a six-time all-American NCAA gymnast, and a former member of the USA Senior Men’s Gymnastics Team. As a current member of USA Gymnastics’ medical staff, Kruse provides care at national gymnastics competitions and provides medical consultation for USA Gymnastics’ national team members.

Athletic Clearance
Athletic Clearance & Physical Forms
Per CIF rule, a student must complete an annual physical before trying out, practicing, or participating in interscholastic athletic competition. This process needs to be completed for each academic school year. Clearance is required and must be completed before summer workouts/practices.
Free Annual Sports Pre-Participation Physicals
Exer Urgent Care is offering Crean Lutheran student-athletes FREE annual sports pre-participation physicals! Please see the flyer below and make an appointment at one of their locations. Make sure to print the physical form and take it with to your appointment for the doctor to fill out.

Actions required for clearance are a two step process.

A signed and dated physical from a doctor. Physicals are valid for a 1 year period from the date on the physical form. If you are using last year's physical that has not expired yet you must still upload it again for this calendar year.

Once you have your signed and dated physical form from your doctor, complete the online clearance process and submit the physical evaluation at www.athleticclearance.com.
The physical evaluation must be uploaded online to complete the athletic clearance. Parent and athlete must sign before uploading.

Note: Multiple Sport Athletes- At the start of every new sport season, you will need to sign into your account at www.athleticclearance.com and sign up for that particular sport. Completing this process keeps rosters and medical information updated at all times during the school year.
