2022 Season Wrap-up
Crean Lutheran swimmers celebrate successful seasons
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you. Isaiah 43:2It was a memorable 2022 season for the Crean Lutheran High School swimming and diving program, which had 38 competitors on the varsity and JV teams, the most in school history.
“Both boys and girls teams finished in second place in league competition and multiple school top 10 swims were achieved,” said Coach Todd Brinker. “A half dozen school records fell, highlighted by juniors Andrew Teh and Tate Fitzgerald setting new 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard breaststroke marks.”
Crean Lutheran also had eight boys competing in CIF post season competition, the most in school history. Overall, the Saints finished 12th out of more than 70 schools at the finals. The Saints girls standout was Masen Karsten, who also advanced to finals and set personal best times in both the 50 and 100 yard freestyle events. Karsten, along with Teh and Fitzgerald and the boys 200 medley relay team, also advanced to the state championship meet in Clovis.“The final swim of the season was junior Andrew Teh swimming in the finals (top16) of the state championship meet in the 100 backstroke,” Brinker said. “Overall (it was) an incredibly successful season for a team that graduates only two seniors, Masen Karsten and Kanoa Loo.”

2020 Season Wrap Up
Crean Lutheran’s swim teams had added depth and lots of promise
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you. Isaiah 43:2
It was looking like a promising season for Crean Lutheran High School’s swim teams. The prospects appeared bright before spring sports were cancelled throughout the state. Highlighting the season was the team’s third place overall finish at the Riverside Poly Pentathlon.
“This season started with high promise with our largest team in history,” said co-head coach Millicent Powell. “Each week the captains would lead the team with a devotional quote, ask for prayer requests and focus on the word of the Lord with a prayer.”
Powell also talked about the contributions of the seniors.
“We were led by five amazing seniors Anthony Fitzgerald, Joey Schell, Jacob Tung, Mandy Brenner and Ivanna Zamora.Team captain Anthony currently holds the school record in the 100 breaststroke, has qualified for CIF in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke and has been a part of the CIF qualifying relays for the boys’ team.
“Jacob Tung has contributed many points with his freestyle sprinting speed and has been a part of the CIF qualifying relays for the boys’ team. Team captain Joey Schell has been a part of the CIF qualifying relays for the boys’ team. Team captain Mandy Brenner was a member of the 2017 CIF championship team and three-time CIF and state finalist, as well as CIF champion in 50 and 100 free in the 2019 season. She was a member of the teams who currently hold the CIF 200 medley relay record and 200 freestyle relay record in Division 2. Team captain Ivanna Zamora has contributed many points with her backstroke and freestyle speed and has been a part of the CIF qualifying relays for the girls’ team.”
Co-head coach Todd Brinker added some words of encouragement for the Saints’ swimmers;
“To the 2020 Crean Lutheran swim team, your strength and resilience amazes me! As we have stepped away from the pool, you have continued to support each other online and build towards that day we will be able to congregate and compete again,” he said. “JR's drive-by-birthday was an opportunity to see each other with our eyes instead of cameras and the love and support you each share will make this year and this short season memorable.
“While our seniors are no longer leading prayers to start practice, you were there for the birthday celebration. You are leading our program even as you prepare to move on next year. I am looking forward to next year, with new faces taking the lead and growing in the community of Christ as all move forward and see what the future holds. Blessings to each of you from all of the coaches.”

Colten Young Repeats as CIF-SS and State Champion Diver!
In what has become old hat for the Crean Lutheran junior diver, he out pointed all the competition by a combination of higher degree of difficulty, and exceptional execution of dives. As the competition progressed he rained loose and mentally relaxed. Relaxed that is untill he got on the board, and then his laser focus was apparent. Colten takes full advantage of his height, 6'2' which is taller than average for a diver. The height of his dives are a hallmark of each dive on his list, something his competition acknowledges is hard to beat. Congratulations Colten! We look forward to 2017 and what it will bring.

Operation Christmas Child - November 30, 2022
On November 30,2022, the Crean Lutheran Swimming & Diving team and the Girls and Boys Water Polo teams volunteered at Samaritan's Purse to help package 50,000 Operation Christmas Child boxes for children in Mongolia. Organized by junior Ruth Harkins, we gathered to help bring the joy of our Lord's birth to those in need.
Operation Christmas Child sends donated shoe boxes with clothing, toys, and caring to thousands of needy children, giving volunteers the opportunity to evangelize and bring joy. This was the first time in several years that they were allowed into Mongolia, and we all pray that Christ will continue to touch every heart that they encounter.
