Crean Lutheran boys golf team showed promise in shortened season
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2
Crean Lutheran’s boys golf team was off to a 2-0 start when athletics throughout Orange County were cancelled, but Coach Aaron Puls said the team was blessed with some memorable experiences.
“Although our season came to an unfortunate and abrupt halt, we are confident that our 2020 Saints’ men’s golf team was outstanding,” Coach Puls said. “We were blessed with many young and talented athletes.”
Puls said he and the players have fond memories of the late Dan Fink, the former Saints golf coach. A highlight from our season was all the memories we got to share of our dear friend and coach Dan Fink who passed away earlier this year,” he said. “This produced a unique unity and culture that we were able to develop in such a short time. We all miss Coach Fink and we loved him so much. We are encouraged by God's promises for us that Dan is in glory with his Creator right now.”
Puls said he believes that it would have been a promising season for the Saints. “We were blessed with an abundance of young talent this year on the Saints' golf team,” he said. “Even though we only played two varsity matches, I am confident that we would have had an amazingly successful season. Considering we are only graduating one senior from the team, next year looks just as good.”
Crean Lutheran had only one senior on the team, captain Thomas Yang. “Thomas is a great leader, an exceptional human being, and an excellent golfer,” Puls said. “He was surely one of our best players on the team and I believe he would have made a deep run into CIF this year. We know he has a bright future both on and off the golf course and we were all blessed to have him on the team.”
