Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Colossians 3:23-24
Crean Lutheran High School offers four prestigious cohort programs for students interested in exploring various professions within the fields of Medicine, Engineering, Business, and Law. The cohorts emphasize project-based learning, service, and community outreach. Students have the opportunity to attend workshops, conferences, and lectures by professionals; complete internship opportunities; and have priority enrollment in cohort classes. Counselors work closely with cohort students to discuss and balance their course load, extracurricular activities, and college options. Completion of the four-year Cohort Program assists students in establishing knowledge, skills, and experiences that will support them in future endeavors. Students who complete all four years in one of the cohorts will receive a special cohort distinction on their transcripts. Please click on the Cohort Overview below for more information.
Crean Lutheran is excited to launch its latest cohort offering for the 2020-2021 school year: the Law Cohort. Cohort Advisor Mr. Glen Worthington is a Georgetown Law J.D. with multiple years of legal practice at one of the largest law firms in Orange County. He has also taught law as adjunct faculty at Concordia University Irvine and Trinity Law School. Several years ago, Mr. Worthington felt called by the Lord to transition to a career in high school education, and now he is excited that the Lord is giving him an opportunity to continue teaching law as well!
The Law Cohort is designed to give students a foundational knowledge of law and legal practice, training in legal skills, and unique experiences to see law-in-action. Law Cohort students will tour courthouses, law offices, law schools, and meet a variety of legal professionals from private attorneys to District Attorneys, judges, law professors, and politicians. Students will draft mock legislation, practice depositions and client interviews, and debate current legal issues. Law Cohort students will also have opportunities to compete in Speech & Debate, Mock Trial, and Model United Nations.
Law-focused high school classes are a great preparation for a future career as a lawyer, but law school and/or legal studies unlock many doors beyond just a legal career. In addition to law firms, individuals with law degrees serve as politicians (36.6% of current House Representatives and 53% of current Senators), CEOs and other business executives, and sports and entertainment agents among many other careers that benefit from a legal background. Law is a gateway to many rewarding careers, and the Law Cohort will help students advance their own career journey.
