Academic Teams
And I told them of the hand of my God that had been upon me for good, and also of the words that the king had spoken to me. And they said, “Let us rise up and build.” So they strengthened their hands for the good work. Nehemiah 2:18
At Crean Lutheran High School, students are given the opportunity to pursue their interests and passion by joining an Academic Team. Many of our teams practice regularly, participate in competitions during the year, and require a greater time commitment than our clubs. Our students are supported and mentored by dedicated coaches who provide hands-on, individualized instruction to prepare students for competitions.

2021 Academic Teams Highlights
Model United Nations
Six students participated in MUN National Conference. In this conference, students simulated a UN Security Council committee based on four major current global issues. Junior, Peter Chen earned the Outstanding Delegate Award and took 2nd place for his entire committee. The MUN also participated in two other major conferences this year.
Math Olympiad
Participation in this year’s AMC test reached an all time high for Crean Lutheran. Altogether 37 students participated in the national contest this year. Alex Chug, Brian Kan, and Daniel Kye (all sophomores) each managed to qualify for the second round of the national math olympiad contest. Brian Kan scored the highest score ever in school history on the AIME contest and was the closest student to qualifying for the final round of the national olympiad (USAMO).
SCIENCE Olympiad
The team competed at the Orange County Regional Science Olympiad Competition (hosted by Cal Tech). Crean Lutheran placed 4th in the competition (out of 63 teams) in the categories of “Game On” and “Cybersecurity”. These students made up the teams:

Cybersecurity: Michael Wong and Thomas Marshall
